Nano-OptoElectronics Lab seeks a qualified candidate for a M.Sc. position on silicon-on-chip lasers and detectors.

Description of the M.Sc. project
- Silicon-on-chip lasers and detectors are key enabling elements for many applications of increasing demands and importance, such as datacenters, supercomputers, various sensors (for internet of things), bio/medical diagnosis chips, and LiDARs. You will investigate novel silicon-on-chip lasers and/or detectors with high scientific impacts and application values. The research activities will include the design, fabrication, and characterization of the silicon-on-chip lasers and/or detectors.
- High impact publications are expected. So far, successful master students have ended with 1 journal paper in Optics Express or IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, as the first author. Recent Ph.D. graduates have published on-average 5 journal papers as the first author in high-impact journals, out of on-average 4 years of study, and got postdoc positions at high ranking universities including Univ. of Cambridge, UK.

Research environment
- You will have access to the state-of-the-art cleanroom (UNIST Nano Fabrication Center) and learn CMOS-compatible fabrication technology, which is a unique opportunity. Furthermore, our lab is equipped with advanced characterization set-ups (as of end of 2018) and home-made advanced simulators.
- The working relationship will be friendly with funs. You will have a tailored one-on-one supervision meeting with an advisor (Prof. Chung) every second week. This will greatly help you progress faster.

Working conditions
- No tuition fee
- Monthly allowance of 0.8M KRW, which can be raised depending on your achievement
- Stay at a modern dormitory inside the campus, or an apartment for a married.
- Participation in domestic conferences if your paper is accepted.

Qualification
- Candidates should have a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Material Science, Optoelectronics, or a related subject.
- For international students, English fluency in speaking and writing is required.

Application
- The application period is August 14 to September 6, 2018. Detailed information can be found in here (English version from Page 9).
- If you are interested in the position, please send Prof. Chung (ischung@unist.ac.kr) an introduction of yourself and a transcript listing courses with grades that you took, before submitting your application. For any inquiries, you are welcome to contact Prof. Chung.
